Canada Day celebration plans are underway for High River.

Keeley McLeod, the community programs facilitator for the town, is excited about the opportunities for people to actively participate in the celebrations.

"We have a 5K loop that we're going to have marked out at George Lane Park. That is going to be on from the 24 to July 1, and you'll see signs and things there for the route."

You will need to register for the 5 km loop via the Town of High River webpage or calling the Bob Snodgrass Rec Plex at 403-652-4042.

On July 1, they plan to have volunteers at the park from nine until noon, collecting Jumpstart donations.

Those who donate will be entered into a draw for a barbeque from Canadian Tire.

McLeod is glad they've made it possible for people to also participate virtually from the comfort of their own homes.

"Tune into our Parks and Rec page at Town of High River Community Programs, and show your Canadian spirit and decorate your house or yard. Tag our Facebook page and your name could be entered into a draw for some prizes from local businesses."

This year, there won't be any fireworks.
