High River council has adopted the town's new Trails, Parks, and Open Spaces Master Plan.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says there was one thing they wanted to be taken out of the plan.

"Removing item 1.3 which was a recommendation from the consultant to re-name George Lane Campground, not the entire park but just the campground piece," he says.

"Council was unanimous in removing that recommendation because George Lane Park and George Lane Campground, in my mind, it's all the same entity, and separating them would only confuse things. I also don't believe it's the right thing to do in that George Lane was the one that donated that land to the town of High River for its use, so I think think it's important we continue the recognition of that, regardless of how long ago it was."

Snodgrass says the rest of the plan encompasses a massive amount of land in the town considering all of the open spaces with the addition of the Mercer-Hughes lands, the former Beachwood Estates, and Wallaceville.

"We are still being asked about turning some of these areas into RV Parks and campgrounds and that sort of thing, but the number one thing people have to understand is those big areas, Beachwood, Wallaceville, Mercer-Hughes, those are number one. They are floodways for High River, period, that's it."

The report is meant to provide future councils and organizations a way to go back and get an overview of what the plan is for a particular area.
