The Lomond Lakers are gearing up for their training camp in the Heritage Junior "B" Hockey League.

G.M. Brad Koch says some of the boys have started skating, with their main camp about a week away.

"We're just staying in Lethbridge right now, getting the kids on the ice, getting them going. Camp's Saturday, October 3, Sunday, October 4 and Tuesday, October 6 in Vulcan. Who know? I'm not too sure what my numbers are going to be in camp. There could be 30, there could be 50 right now, there's lots of interest. I guess we wait and see what comes."

With the High River Flyers not playing this year, many of their players are looking for a spot with the Okotoks Bisons, but did any give the Lakers a call looking for a spot?

Koch says, not so much.

"No none. Never had a call from one High River person at all. I think that tells us what kind of rivalry we had. They didn't like us, we didn't like them. Not one person."

Koch says the Heritage League season could be a strange looking one this year though, if and when they do get playing.

He says it's still a work in progress.

"Regular season could look like, you play Coaldale on a Friday and Saturday night. Take 14 days off, practice, you don't play any more games until your 14 days are up. Then once you can you play another team, like a Strathmore, then you take another 14 days off. So, ya, it's a rigmarole, we just don't know what's going on yet."

Like everything else in the sporting world, it's up to the health authorities and Hockey Alberta to decide when they can start playing and how it's going to look.
