A big anniversary for the Turner Valley Golf Club this year as they turn 90.

G.M., J.D. Scheller, says they've come a long way since 1930 when the Royalite Oil Company handed over some land to some locals to build, what at the time, was a much smaller version of the the golf course that's there today.

"It was actually the idea of four local people who convinced the Royalite Oil Company to donate some land and they did a little three hole loop around the houses on Royalite Way."

Scheller, says the course has undergone some serious changes over the years.

"Starting about 1950 they went to a nine hole, sand green loop. In about the mid 70's they went to 18 and grass (greens) and then re-did it again in '81 and then we did our last renovation around 2010."

Scheller says they're doing what the can to celebrate by putting commemorative flags up on each hole and selling some 90th Anniversary merchandise.

He says unfortunately they've had to scale back some of their plans to mark the occasion.

"We did have some plans going on, but obviously we've had to postpone them or reschedule them. We're hoping that maybe in September if we can get the curve flattened again we'll be able to ease the restrictions as we have something planned for the second weekend in September."
