The Oakland Athletics in southern California had a new voice talent calling their play-by-play for the first time last month.

Alex Jensen, a former Dawgs player, is the current announcer for the Stockton Ports, the Class-A-Advanced affiliate of the Athletics.

He recently made his major league baseball broadcast debut in Oakland when he called the action for the Oakland A's game against the Seattle Mariners on May 24.

"Not just to call a major league game, that's a dream come true in itself, but to do it for the A's in Oakland for the first time, it's hard to even put it into words.

"I hope that it came through to people that were listening how much fun I was having. I thought it went well."

Jensen does his best to stay informed on everything surrounding a team before calling a game.

"You don't want to feel like the person listening knows more than you do, and it's kind of tough."

He started behind the mic in baseball at the Seaman Stadium when the Dawgs hosted the United States and Chinese Taipei for a super series.

He also has several fond memories in Okotoks as a Dawgs player. His first time at the stadium a few days before opening, they were still laying sod on the hill.

"I'd never played in a place like that, and I always wanted to. It was just kind of surreal."

Jensen went on to win three straight titles with the Dawgs from 2007 to 2009.

"I met some of the best friends that I still have to this very day. And just playing in front of the best fans there are. Being able to play in that stadium in front of 3,000 people a night just made me feel like a professional baseball player. It was incredible... it was an experience that I'll never ever, ever forget."
