Foothills Victim Services in collaboration with some members of the High River RCMP are holding their first annual golf tournament at the Highwood Golf and Country Club.

Volunteer coordinator Kurt Thomas says the tournament is the first of its kind with proceeds going directly to the Victim Services Unit.

"We're going to be hosting the event at the Highwood Golf and Country Club on June 28 with a Shot gun start occurring at 10AM. We're looking for sponsors to help sponsor the tournament as well as some silent auction items."

He says Foothills Regional Victim Services (FVRS) provides assistance to victims of crime or tragedy 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and provide a vital service to people at some of the most difficult times.

"Victim Services are individuals that volunteer their time to help people get through a tough time, they help guide people the way they need to go like helping them get ready for court or whatever the case may be."

He says for a hundred bucks the day includes 18 holes of golf, a cart and a steak dinner followed by a silent auction with all proceeds from the tournament going to Victims Services.

Thomas says he's still looking for more people to register for the event and says it's open to everyone.

"Ultimately our real hope would be to fill in 36 teams but I would like to get a minimum of 18 teams, one per every hole and make it a really fun and enjoyable event."

The Victim Services Unit currently shares space within the High River RCMP detachment and work in collaboration with police to assist people that have been affected by crime.
