The Foothills School Division is reporting a large decrease in drop-out rates from previous years, with the rate below the provincial average.

Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services Caroline Roberts says their success comes in part from the parents at home.

"Our parental involvement in our school improvement planning is so important because having their voice within our plans in moving forward in planning and student learning is essential."

Roberts says the student's success is also based on the quality of their education.

"All of our achievement measures are under P.A.T. and diploma results and we've seen growth and improvement in that. That's because of the high quality of instruction that we have in the division."

The overall education quality rate and completion rate has improved. Moving forward, the school division's main focus is growth and continuous improvement.

Roberts says they need to look at ways to achieve continuous improvement.

"We have a number of measures at a divisional level to access how we are meeting the needs of our students and improving," she said. "So continuous improvement is about looking at all of those evidence pieces, looking at those particular areas of strength and looking at why have those particular areas been so strong."
