A mixed bag for the Calgary Flames over Family Day long weekend, with one win and one loss to the Canucks.

On Saturday, Vancouver broke free from a six-game losing streak besting the Flames 3-1.

Flames Head Coach Geoff Ward attributed the loss to sloppy puck handling.

"Even when we had open opportunities to make passes, we found a way not to complete them, so puck control is something that needs to be an awful lot better for us moving forward here."

Left-winger Andrew Mangiapane says Mikael Backlund's absence has definitely been felt in a major way.

"Hopefully he'll be back soon. Yeah, he's a great player. He's smart offensively, smart defensively, and he's a leader on this team. That's why he's an Assistant Captain. He's been in the league for a while, so he's obviously a great player, and he means a lot to us."

Calgary struck back on Monday, rounding out their three-game stay in Vancouver with a 4-3 overtime win.

They're not done with the Canucks however, with one last game to be played at the dome tomorrow night.

After that, they'll be gearing up for two straight games against the Edmonton Oilers.
