Foothills County is the latest Southern Alberta municipality to issue a fire ban.

The decision was made by the county with consultation from Foothills Fire Chief Rick Saulnier.

According to the county's website, it'll be in place until all areas of the Foothills receive substantial moisture.

Any fires presently burning are to be extinguished, and all fire permits issued have been suspended.

The lighting of any outdoor fires is prohibited, including campfires, burning barrels, and fireworks.

Fires from gas appliances like barbecues are permitted.

The ban went into effect at noon on Monday, April 5th.

Neither the Town of Okotoks nor High River have instituted their own fire bans.
