The Foothills Composite Falcons road to repeat as provincial champions begins this weekend as they battle the Springbank Phoenix in the Tier II High School Football Quarterfinals.

After their huge 57-7 win over the Holy Trinity Academy Knights last week in the Big Rock Finals the Falcons are going in confident after having doubt after last year's finals.

Head Coach Darren Olson says after losing on home field to Rundle College a season ago they weren't  going to let that happen two years in a row.

"We just re-emphasized and made sure that our guys were focused on that this year that anything can happen even though we beat them earlier in the season we got to play each game and so the coaches did a great job and the guys were really well prepared and they did a great job on Friday," he says.

Olson says they'll going up a high powered Phoenix offence.

"They throw the ball a lot, their quarterback is big, tall and athletic. They run a basic offence with two backs and probably 50/50 between shotgun and under centre. They got a couple strong linebackers so we're definitely going to have to be on our A game this week."

With the dog days of the Football season in full effect Olson says if the Falcons are to get back to the Alberta Bowl it's going to come down to how many big plays their defence can come up with.

"They're strength for sure and they got to continue to play that way. We got great leadership on that side of the ball and starting four grade 12 linebackers so it's going to be strength. It's something we're going to have to rely on as we go further into this knowing those guys are going to play well and keep us in ball games."

The Falcons will be in Springbank on Saturday.
