Denny's fundraiser for the Okotoks Food Bank was a "grand slam".

The restaurant sold their Grand Slam breakfasts for $1.99 on Oct. 23 with all funds going to the food bank.

In total, 468 Grand Slam breakfasts were sold and on top of other donations made that day, $1,182.12 was raised for the local organization. This is over double the amount of breakfasts that were sold last year which was 233.

Sheila Hughes, Executive Director of the Okotoks Food Bank, says Denny's supports the food bank through a couple other initiatives as well.

"The year before we actually worked with them for the very first time... it was at the parade in June. They do the Taste of Okotoks, and then they also do the Full Tummies campaign, so they sell a coupon book with $17 worth of savings for $2, they do that in the month of September and that goes towards children's programs."

Hughes says the organization is grateful for the support.

"Thank you to our community, to everybody that came out and supported. It was great to see we had lots of local supporters. The management and staff were incredible, we had district mangers there supporting and helping in the restaurant, the servers were just amazing. The kitchen staff were incredible, I can't imagine serving that many breakfasts in that amount of time. Just wonderful."

Next the Okotoks Food Bank is gearing up for Christmas Hamper registration which opens Nov. 6.
