The Mayor of Claresholm wants be the UCP candidate in the next provincial election.

Chelsae Petrovic also runs a non-profit and is a nurse at the Claresholm General Hospital and Fort Macleod Emergency care.

She says her success as mayor comes from close communications with local committees.

"What made me decide [to run] was a few people asking me to run and I said I'm not quite ready to leave Claresholm and what we're doing here and the more I thought about it the more, through the non-profit organization and through nursing, if I'm able to take what I'm doing as mayor and take it to a provincial level the Livingstone-Macleod riding is only going to benefit from that."

"One of the first things I did in Claresholm was I rebuilt the relationship between the boards and town council, I take the philosophy that everyone's voice needs to be heard and in order to make decisions for the community we need to be in the community, listening, hearing everyone's concerns and then bringing that forward into every decision that's made on a council basis."

Petrovic says she wants the riding to have an MLA that's "present" and willing to take local concerns to Edmonton and not bringing what Edmonton wants back to the constituency.

"I believe that we have it reversed a little bit and that we take orders from Ottawa and from Edmonton but MLA's have to start taking orders from their constituents."

As a nurse she's seen first-hand the pressure's they've been dealing with.

"I believe it does give me a better perspective, when I talk with a lot of my co-workers and we're looking at the burn-out rate, we need to look at why nurses are burnt out, why is there no appreciation," she says. "Banging on pots and pans was all nice and all but we could do more for our nurses and that includes sitting down with them, sitting down with local level hospitals, local level health officials and seeing what are the true problems and how do we fix them."

She says there's a lot of upper and middle management at AHS that isn't needed and says nurses will tell officials what they need they just need to be listened to.

Petrovic is the fifth candidate to join the race to replace out going MLA Roger Reid.
