The Calgary Stampede Canvas Auction at the Big Four Roadhouse on Thursday night brought in big bucks.

The 44th annual event racked up the sales, with Kris Molle topping all 27 chuckwagons with a whopping bid of $210,000, up from $170,000 last year.

In total, $3.15 million was brought in which was the seventh highest on record.

Local favourites did extremely well too, with De Winton's Dayton Sutherland tying for third with a winning bid of $160,000 from Truman Homes.  High River's hometown favourite Jason Glass was nipping on Sutherland's heels coming in next with $150,000, which is up from last year's bid of $110,000.  Jordie Fike tied with last year's bid of $100,000 from Steelhaus Technologies Inc.

Note that Dayton Sutherland's dad, Mark, retired after last year's season.

The night also set a new record for the highest average bid at $115,370.37 exceeding the previous record from 2012 of $111,528.00.

The total amount of sales with their seventh highest on record with 18 drivers cracking the $1000,000 mark.
