The 2015 Junior and Senior High School rodeo finals go this weekend in Nanton.

Local roughstock champ, Jake Burwash says with the large number of contestants they have taking part, it takes a bit of planning to make sure everyone gets to compete.

"The way that we've got it set up with two arenas. We can actually run a lot of the girls events, while the roughstock is going on in the smaller arena. And then we can bring in the roping events, where it's boys and girls in the team roping events. They try to make it work for everybody, because there's a lot of girls that are running three or four events too. We've got to make it fit, but I think we've got it set for this year."

He was supposed to see a lot more action with the Foothills Cowboy Association this spring, but a broken wrist kept him out for a while, but that may have actually worked to his advantage in the end.

"Actually I ended up with a scholarship to go college rodeo down in the States, thanks to going to Wyoming to the High School nationals. So, we're going to use that scholarship. I'm going to go down to Arizona this year and going to go college rodeo for two years and see what we can do down there."

The rodeo runs Thursday through Saturday at the Nanton Rodeo Grounds, next to the Golf Course.
