Residents of Black Diamond and Turner Valley have had their say when it comes to a new name for the two communities if they become one.

Black Diamond Mayor Ruth Goodwin says there was an original consultation that brought forward three names, the Town of Sheep River, Black Valley and Diamond Valley and then it was whittled down from there.

"It was very evident that the winner of the three was Diamond Valley, so that will be the name that's going to be submitted on the amalgamation application if it goes through on the 25th of August"

At the last joint amalgamation committee meeting members reviewed the application.

"The draft application will now be put together by administration, with some assistance from our consultants, and it will be presented to the JFAC committee of 14 on the 25th of August."

The two councils will take another look at it after that date and then the joint amalgamation committee has to decide if it's ready to go to Municipal Affairs in Edmonton by September 25th.
