Both the Highwood Mustangs boys and girls rugby squads had a tough day at the office Wednesday.

The ladies were handed a 50-0 loss at the hands of the Holy Trinity Academy Knights.

While the Mustang boys had all kinds of chances to win against Strathcona-Tweedsmuir, but in the end got into too much penalty trouble.

Coach Dave Roberts says "We were inside their 22 five times. Knocked on their door but could not pull the trigger. Again, more penalties and the momentum swung the other way. I don't believe the best or hardest working team won the game, but the smarter team did as they took advantage of our high tackles and illegal rucking."

In the end those penalties cost the Mustangs, as they fell 44-12.

Mitch Newman and Zak Scovoranski had the Mustangs tries.

Sam Benitez had an outstanding game and was named Man of the Match.

Both Mustangs teams are 1-and-1 to start the season.

The other game had the Foothills Falcons ladies beat the Oilfields Drillers 37-5 in Black Diamond.
