Gage Alexander is one of two Okotoks athletes selected in the NHL draft over the weekend.

Currently goaltending for the Winnipeg Ice, Alexander was picked by the Anaheim Ducks in the fifth round, 148th overall.

The Okotokian was able to share the moment with his family.

"I was just on the couch with my parents, just kinda waiting through the day, seeing where it would take me, if I got selected or not. It was a really cool moment with my family, my grandparents, and my brother. It was just super cool to see that happen and just a dream from so long ago that finally came true," said Alexander during a media availability.

He played nine games with the Ice in the 2020-2021 season, posting a 6-3-0 record.

During that limited season, he had a save percentage of .917 with a 2.23 goals-against average.

Alexander says he'll be working hard to prove his worth.

"I've just gotta get bigger, faster, stronger. Simple answer, but I mean, that's the bottom line. I just need to be more pro-like and more ready for certain situations, and I need to become that guy this year in Winnipeg. I'm excited to do that."
