Parents looking for a little guidance in how to deal with their children and technology can take in a workshop Monday, November 27th at Okotoks Junior High School.

Loriann Salmon, director of inclusive learning with the Foothills School Division says the rules and expectations that you put in place at home will undoubtedly guide their behaviour in the years to come.

"It is a conference for parents," said Salmon. "what this night will do is a few things."

She added they will be doing some work around what parents need to know to protect their kids.

"And how to teach them to be responsible and appropriate users of technology."

They will be showing parents current apps and that their students are probably using.

"They will be taking a look at current research with regards to technology and brain development."

They will also have some information on video games and what a digital footprint is.

"Just developing an awareness and understanding an awareness of a persons digital footprint. What that might mean for their children. How to find what their digital footprint is and the impact of leaving that digital footprint behind as well."

Topics include:

• Social Media Update – The most current apps & trends in their social media lives
• Pick Your Battles! – You will have to balance the yin with the yang, promote independence whilst taking a strong stance on certain subjects
• Current Research – Brain development & technology, violent video games
• Digital Footprint and Reputation – With their future approaching, recruiters and employers are taking note – What will they find? What will they leave behind?
• Tips & Tricks to Use at Home
