The Town of Okotoks is getting ready to finish phase B for the revitalization of Veterans Way.

The pedestrian corridor upgrades have seen the installation of wider sidewalks on the east side of the street and a multi-use pathway on the west side.

James Cameron, project engineer, says work will be resuming on the project next week.

"Tree removals are scheduled to start on March 13 and the remainder of the work will likely start in April after the ground has thawed and is expected to be completed by the end of the year."

The trees that are being removed will be replaced by a variety of new trees, flowering shrubs, perennials, and ornamental grasses.

Cameron says Veterans Way is important for the future of connecting different parts of Okotoks.

"Veterans Way has been identified as one of the primary pedestrian corridors that connects the north end of the town to downtown so for this reason one of the main objectives with this project is to enhance this corridor so it's more oriented towards active transportation and less towards vehicles," he says. "Future developments in the north will build upon this project and further expand these pathway networks."
