Winter Walk Day on Feb. 1st was an overall success in Okotoks.

Community Events Coordinator Mark Doherty says the Pason Centennial Arena was quite busy in the morning.

"We had 191 participants signed up at the Pason Centennial Arena. The morning was busy, but then in the afternoon the weather changed a bit and it got nice. I think People decided to go walk outside."

Doherty says the numbers were similar to last year, but he still feels that Okotoks did really well.

"The total time walked, was 7775 minutes, which translates to 129.58 hours, That's pretty good!"

Winter Walk Day is a provincial initiative that starts friendly competition amongst communities to find out which community, is the most active.

It also serves as a reminder to people that the cold and dark days of winter aren't an excuse to become less active.

Mark Doherty says if you were out and about on the 1st, you can still register your time online.

"We would like to encourage any body that actually got physical on February 1st to get out and go to shape alberta at shapeab.com and register their time."

Once all of the information is and time's have been tallied we'll know how Okotoks fairs against other communities.
