The Town of Okotoks has announced the winning photos to be featured in the 2019 Conservation Calendar.

Okotoks resident, Anna Shearer, was the grand prize winner, with a winter photo of the original Laurie Boyd Bridge over the Sheep River selected as the top image, and will be featured both on the cover, and inside the calendar.

Shearer says she was overjoyed to receive the call that she had won, and extends congratulations to all entrants that exhibited their talents in this year's contest.

"I'm honoured to have one the grand prize, and to be featured in the calendar, but also congratulations to everybody else who was featured and all those who entered. The amount and the quality of entries they had was incredible. It's just lovely that there's so much talent in Okotoks," she said.

Shearer was awarded a prize package of environmentally friendly goods valued at $200.

She says her winning photo of the original Laurie Boyd Bridge was taken a few years ago on a family walk.

"I was out for a walk with my family. The bridge is just a beautiful bridge, and it just blended in really nicely with the environment. When we got to that part of the walk, I knew exactly what iIwanted it to look like, and it just turned out really well. I was really pleased with it," she said.

There were more than 80 photographers that submitted over 450 entries this year. The calendar will be available starting today at the Okotoks Rec Centre, Municipal Centre, Pason Centennial Arenas, Okotoks Public Library and the Visitor Centre at the Okotoks Art Gallery.
