Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for regions in the M.D. of Foothills and surrounding areas.

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected to begin this afternoon, Wednesday, May 24, and will gradually diminish this evening.

An intense low pressure system bringing rain to southern Alberta is to blame for the strong northerly winds, with gusts up to 100 km/h possible.

Environment Canada says damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur, and loose objects may be tossed by the wind and can cause injury or damage.

Depending on how the system develops the wind warnings may be expanded.

The warning has been issued for the M.D. of Foothills near Blackie, Wheatland Co. near Strathmore Lyalta and Carseland, Wheatland Co., Vulcan Co. near Arrowwood Herronton and Queenstown, Vulcan Co. near Vulcan and Ensign, Vulcan Co. near Carmangay and Champion, Vulcan Co. near Lomond Travers and Little Bow Reservoirs, and Vulcan Co. near Milo.
