Due to the strong wind speeds the M.D. of Foothills landfill is now closed until further notice.

Wind speeds have exceeded 60 km/h closing the landfill for safety concerns.

 Hold onto your hats! A wind warning is in effect for the Foothills Thursday where wind gusts could range from 80 to 100 km/h.

The winds will continue to develop throughout the morning and continue into the afternoon and should begin to weaken by the evening.

Areas included in the warning by Environment Canada are:

-M.D. of Foothills near Cayley
-M.D. of Foothills near High River and Aldersyde
-M.D. of Foothills near Longview and Eden Valley Res.
-M.D. of Foothills near Okotoks and De Winton
-M.D. of Foothills near Priddis and Brown-Lowery Prov. Park
-M.D. of Foothills near Turner Valley and Black Diamond
-M.D. of Willow Creek near Claresholm and Stavely
-M.D. of Willow Creek near Nanton and Parkland
-Rocky View Co. near Bragg Creek and Tsuu T'ina Res.

The strong winds have the potential to cause damage to buildings and toss around loose objects.

Motorists are also being reminded to be prepared to adjust their driving as road conditions change with the wind gusts.
