As the the first week of fall hits, the leaves will soon change colour and become one of the many tasks that go with fall clean-up in your yards.

According to Okotoks Waste Services Manager Paul Lyons, there's more than just one way to dispose your fallen leaves and the town can help by giving them a call.

'It allows residents to collect leaves in approved Town of Okotoks bags," he says. "Residents can call us and will we pick them up and that costs $3 per bag, and we have collections on Mondays and Fridays for leaves."

Lyons says if residents aren't interested in paying $3 a bag, leaves can be a great source of compost and mulch.

"There is some amounts of nutrients, in fact various nutrients in those leaves so if residents have mulching programs, they can easily use that as part of their mulch."

As for collection of the bags of leaves, Lyons says there is not cap onto how many bags a resident can bag to the town, he encourages everyone bagging their leaves to not mix it with regular garbage and not have leaves placed into the landfill.

"We'll be able to take on an unlimited number of bags, and really what happens is residents are encouraged to either call us or go online," he says. "There's an online form where you can submit the number of bags and staff will come out."

The online form for the leaf bags can be found here and the town leaf disposal site is located here.
