The town of Okotoks is sending a clear message to residents... Drink Water from the taps!

You may have seen a mobile water wagon making it's routes around town at special events or used it to fill up your water bottle... the water on board is right from Okotoks and not a distributor.

Sustainability Coordinator Dawn Smith says the wagon will be making more stops this summer.

"We are now providing this service at all major events, for people to bring water bottles down and fill up with our healthy local tap water.

Smith re-assures those skeptical about drinking tap water that the water in town is just as good or even better than a bottle you'd buy at a store.

"From an enviromental standpoint its much improved," she says. "Bottled water has a large environmental footprint, it takes a lot of oil to produce the actual bottle and it takes a lot of energy to produce the water."

Smith also says you're going to save money for buying the same thing you'd literally get at home.

"It's a pricey thing and why buy it when your local water is extremely healthy and good for you.

The water wagon will be out during Canada Day events near the Okotoks Rec Centre on Wednesday.
