The pursuit of a potable water pipeline from Calgary to Okotoks is still on the minds of Okotoks Town Council as they made their way up to the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association convention in Edmonton.

A handful of councillors went up with mayor Bill Robertson to talk about the pipeline with various provincial ministers.

Deputy Mayor Ed Sands says the Town's pitch to the government wasn't just an Okotoks issue.

"We pitched it as a regional success project, we pitched it as economic development in terms of jobs and success and we pitched it as a vital need for annexation moving forward," Sands says.

Sands says the provincial brass were impressed with the pitch and hopes the pipeline will be part of the 2016 budget.

"I'm optimistically looking forward to the budget when the province might be looking at funding municipal infrastructure projects which are shovel ready and well planned and have regional impact."

Sands says the province understands the price tag that is behind a project of its size.

"They recognize the funding source of 'Water For Life' may not be the ideal source for funding of a project of this nature, so we are not seeking support for critical failure in our system."
