The official launch of Vulcan Television, or VTV goes Saturday, September 26 in Vulcan.

Board Chair Sandra Scott says they've have a big party planned for Downtown Vulcan at a new restaurant that's opening the same day.

"We'll have a number of musical acts in the afternoon as well as showing some original video content that has been produced specifically for VTV. And that includes a major production called 'Vulcan: To Boldly Go." Which is an ongoing web series that will be available exclusively on VTV."

Scott says the service, which is Internet based, speaks to the audience here in the local area.

"It's a collection of specialized channels offering content targeted at a niche consumer. And in this case, Vulcan Television is targeting rural Canada, specifically Alberta to begin with and will feature content produced about, for and by the people of Vulcan."

Scott says the best way to describe it is Nextflix meets YouTube.

And because they have e-commerce on the site as well, Scott says you can throw Amazon in there too.

The street party goes from 2 P.M. until 10 P.M., but moves into the Coulee Pub and Grill for the launch itself, which will be televised live starting at 8 o'clock.
