The United Conservative Party holds their first ever Annual General Meeting this weekend in Red Deer.

Highwood MLA Wayne Anderson says they're expecting a big turnout.

"Apparently we're going to have almost two thousand people out. I mean, that's unprecedented for the Province of Alberta. I mean, that's like a federal convention. So obviously there's a lot of interest in the UCP Party and there's a big interest on hopefully political change here in Alberta to make things a little better and bring back the Alberta Advantage."

Anderson says the UCP is looking to broaden their appeal to more centrist voters.

"People looking for common sense government once again. Government that's not operating and running on pure ideology and rhetoric. A government that's going to respect the rule of law in all of Canada. Want to ensure our the oil business and our resource sector is properly managed and moving forward wants to decrease the debt and deficit. And obviously one of the biggest things on our slate is eliminating the carbon tax."

Anderson says they'll be concentrating on policy issues and on gearing up for next year's provincial election.
