UCP Leader Jason Kenney has introduced a private members bill, which if passed, would force the Province to hold a referendum over any future increases to the carbon tax.

Highwood MLA Wayne Anderson says if the bill passes it would give some power back to the people.

"It'll hold the government accountable, so if they want to increase the Carbon Tax anymore during their term, they'd have to go back to the people with a referendum. That's if the bill passes. But I don't think that'll happen as the NDP have the majority in the house right now."

Anderson says the NDP should simply dump the tax as it's failed to provide the "social license" they promised it would to allow pipelines to be built.
