Two grass fires burned up 20 acres of grass and pasture land west of Okotoks Monday afternoon.

The fires could be seen along Highway 7 south of the Big Rock and according to the Okotoks Fire Department no other damage has been done.

Emergency crews were on the scene for 45 minutes and were able to get the fire under control.

The fire started very close to the highway but the cause of the fire is still unknown.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says  the Black Diamond area is also experiencing grass fires at this time and the Okotoks Fire Department has sent crews to help.

There has been a fire ban in place in the M.D. of Foothills since Mar. 11 because of the extremely dry conditions in the area.
