Through the 2017 Municipal Election season The Eagle 100.9 and Okotoks Online will be bringing you profiles of candidates to help you make an informed decision.

There are nine candidates running for two School Board Trustee positions, and Corrine Babb is one of them.

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

"I'm the parent of a high schooler in Okotoks, I've been highly active volunteering at the school level with each of my three children and participating in various ways. Most relevant to the election is my experience serving with the school council as chair for both the junior high and high school levels and I'm also currently the chair of the Council of School Councils for the Foothills School Division. I've always had an interest as a citizen in public education and I've followed related events at the provincial and federal level. Certainly as a parent I've directed that interest back to my community and at a local level witnessed those impacts with regard to my own kids. Being involved at the school level has been a way for me to advocate not only for my own kids but kids and their schools, bringing a voice and a face to the impacts of changes, new initiatives, even showcasing unintended consequences, whatever the case may be. Being informed about governance in the division is really important too. My opportunity as a parent is kind of dwindling as my my youngest is in high school and I just see this as an opportunity to put that life long learning, the diverse understanding I have and consistent engagement, not only in Okotoks but in other school divisions in Alberta and Ontario, and the contributions and unique skills relevant to my time partnering with schools can be used in the natural progression towards the next level of involvement as a school board trustee."

What is your platform?:

"I want to be your trustee and this what you can expect from me, accountable representation through communication and engagement, no political agenda, I will represent the views of our community and what's best for kids, and experience to transition and begin working effectively right away."

Why do you believe you'd make a good Trustee?:

"My experience not only in a capacity interacting with schools but also the ability to create as an entrepreneur, to have a willingness to tackle obstacles head on, and common sense and clarity to see beyond the surface and successfully navigate different situations with financial literacy will be an asset. There is a possibility with this election to have an entirely new board representing the constituents of the Foothills School Division and I think it's really important for continuity to have some guidance and leadership of someone who has a current understanding of where things are at in our schools."
