Plenty of fires were put out in this edition of the Fire Report.

The Okotoks Fire Department responded 19 different calls last week.

Okotoks Fire Chief Ken Thevenot

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says his crews were kept extremely busy.

"We attended to four motor vehicle accidents, we assisted with five medical responses, we had six alarm system activations," he says. "We had one gas leak, two smaller grass fire and of course we had that larger grass/structure fire on Saturday."

The cause of the fire on 402 Avenue & 48 Street in Okotoks was a spontaneous combustion leading to the blaze on Saturday.

Thevenot says with the cooler weather settling into the Foothills for the next week, the risks of grass fires drop but they're still a possibility.

"It's still there a little bit because our air is so dry around here but this moisture it sure doesn't hurt us for grass fires with those stubble fields and of course the bales it was a lot work for the crews on Saturday to contain that fire."

As the temperatures continue to drop, Thevenot reminds all residents to have a look at their furnaces to make sure everything is working smoothly.

"We should have furnaces checked annually by a certified technician, ensure that the furnace filters get changed on a regular basis that would be a couple things that I would do with your furnace at this time."
