Okotoks is coming out with a new Culture and Heritage Master Plan, and as part of the planning process officials want to hear from residents, about what's culturally and artistically important to them.

Culture and Heritage Manager with the Town Allan Boss says arts and culture means something different to everyone, and to ensure a positive future for the town they need to hear what makes Okotokians tick.

"It can mean numerous things to everyone, It could mean an expanded art gallery, bigger museums, different performing arts centres, or it could mean new facilities." Boss adds, "We want to hear what people think, things like wanting more activity on the streets, new programs, more support for community groups to help them get their work done. There are all sorts of aspects of Culture and Heritage planning in a community that it's very important for us to try and find out what the 30,000 people who live in Okotoks want."

This new master plan will develop new festivals, events and cultural exhibits that Okotokians can take part in for the next 10-15 years.

The Town has contracted a company called Intelligent Futures to develop the plan and summarize the feedback of citizens through a variety of ways.

Residents will have their first chance to speak with Intelligent Futures representatives during Culture Days On September 30th, they will be stationed at the Pancake Breakfast, and at the final Picnic at the Piano.

Two workshops with Intelligent Futures officials are being offered on Oct. 17th and 18th where pre registered participants can have a deeper conversation about what's most important to them.

Beyond Culture days and workshops, residents can add their input into an online survey, where Boss says contributors will be given the chance to win as incentive to voice their opinion.

"If you fill out the survey we'll give the residents a chance to win 1 of 3 gift cards.  Each at a different value from $150, $250, and $500 for either gas or groceries whichever the winner prefers."

Whichever way you might prefer, Boss says it's very important to planners, that they know what's important to the community, and what we could do without.

"We would love to hear from everyone in the community, it's imperative that we hear what culture and heritage means to you."
