This week marked the return of water and wastewater services under the Town of Okotoks' umbrella.

Previously, the Town paid out to EPCOR to handle staffing for the utility's servicing. Though the move was announced in 2018, November 26 marked the first day under the new organizational structure..

Okotoks' Director of Infrastructure and Operations, Chris Radford, says the hope in bringing those jobs under the Town's employ is to help cut costs.

"We projected a $300,000 savings, and that has been reflected in the 2020 Operational budget. We also worked on significant utility rate review work."

In bringing the employees over, the Town will now no longer need to pay for redundant services.

"We can support a lot of those services, and service delivery staff now through the Okotoks staffing. Examples like H.R., and procurement, that we would have used EPCOR for previously."

In bringing those jobs in, the Town will be adding up to 14 new employees. Ten existing staff will join the payroll, as well as one manager, and there are two job postings up on the Town's website.

Radford says in bringing existing employees under the Town's fold, it ensures a seamless transition for utility customers.

"We are very fortunate that we have transferred over some very highly qualified, and certified operators. The town and residents will continue to benefit from their knowledge and expertise."
