The Town of Okotoks is seeking public input on changes to its Pageantry Signage Policy.

Pageantry signage is used in communities to promote a new neighbourhood development, for example the signs along Cimarron Boulevard.

Jamie Dougdale, Planning Services Manager says the changes to the policy would allow smaller developments to use pageantry signage as well.

"They have changed the definition of new neighbourhood to include smaller, singe site developments or pocket communities," he explains. "We've made a change to allow some more developments to have that pageantry type signage when they're not what we define as new community."

That means developments in new and existing neighbourhoods such as townhouses or condos could be advertised in the same manner as larger scale developments.

Once the amended policy is approved by Council, the Parkhouses' project by Lifestyle Homes in Drake Landing Square will be a test case to measure the impacts of the new policy.

Dougdale shares the town would like to hear what resident's thoughts are on smaller scale developments using pageantry signage.

"We just want to know if anyone feels like it will have any negative impacts on them, the changes. We don't think it will, the community seems to be pretty used to that kind of signage in new communities."

He adds while some may be against more signage indicating new developments, the advertisements are temporary.

"When the community is built out the signage should come down, we do have some communities such as Cimarron that have gone on for a long time, but once they are built out those signs should come down."

All signage must be approved by the Town of Okotoks before it is placed along streets and boulevards.
