The residents of the Okotoks community of Mountainview have gotten an overwhelming response to the petition started in opposition to the town's Bi-Weekly Garbage Pilot Project.

The petition, started on Change.Org by resident Ryan Nix, currently has 650 signatures in support of the opposition, and the town has taken notice.

"A pretty significant amount of people are concerned if we've got that many signatures without going door to door or doing any other advertising." he said.

A former Town Council member, Steve Hunt, has stepped in to assist the residents of the Mountainview community with their efforts to reach out to council and has even initiated conversations with the Mayor, Bill Robertson.

"Steve has talked directly with the Mayor on it, and they're open to hearing what we have to say, so that's good." said Nix.

According to Nix, Town Administration has offered to upgrade effected residents to the larger garbage bin, as well as providing extra yellow bags at no additional charge in order to proceed with the Pilot Project and provide a solution to the inconvenience the residents may face.

"We've heard they're willing to make some concessions as far as the bin size and the additional bags, just so they can run the pilot." he said.

Nix and other Mountainview residents are set to meet with town officials this friday to voice their concerns and discuss additional options.
