Candidates for the upcoming Municipal Election will have a chance to get a deeper look at what running actually entails this Thursday, Sept. 7.

The Town of Okotoks Legislative Services will host a candidate forum from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in council chambers to go over a number of important points.

Cathy Duplessis, Legislative & Policy Services Manager, says the forum should clarify the nomination and election process for candidates.

"We'll go over how you file your nomination forms, what's expected for you to think about when you're considering running for a mayor or council position, and some of the other election advance voting processes," she says. "It gives a chance for you as a perspective candidate to ask questions of myself about the processes."

Duplessis shares the forum will also give a better understanding of what holding a position in office requires, which some candidates can misunderstand.

"I think sometimes a candidate can be more focused on running in the election, or getting through the election process, and kind of not understanding some of the other things behind actually holding office. For instance what their role is under the Municipal Government Act, and some of the things they're actually required to legislatively do when they're elected under that position."

The meeting is open to anyone interested in hearing about the process, Duplessis encourages anyone considering running for office to stop by.

The Municipal Election will be held on Oct. 16, 2017.
