The Town of Okotoks is currently working on finding a way to make the intersection on Veterans Way and South Railway Street safer.

Currently it's a two-way stop, T-intersection that can be hard to navigate at times with heavy flows of traffic.

Projects Engineer James Cameron says the Town is looking into a traffic circle to make the intersection safer.

"Currently it's a non-standard intersection so the hope is that this would help improve traffic flow," he says. "There's no data that we've received yet to support it but we know it's a confusing intersection for both drivers and pedestrians so the hope is if we move it to a standard intersection type we can improve not just traffic flow but safety as well."

Cameron says they haven't received any plans yet on what the circle could look like but it will be a single land circle.

"Just based on the space constraints I don't think it's likely it will be more than a one lane traffic circle, trucks and buses would have to go through there, it would likely be a button style circle would be mountable which would not be an issue for larger vehicles."

The Town hopes to get more data and plans from Stantec in the next few weeks.
