The Town of Okotoks has purchased a new commercial vehicle that they hope will promote their dedication to environmental stewardship and leadership.

A new Ford Fusion Energi with a unique wrap will now carry town employees about their daily business.

Stefan Martensson the Interim Environmental and Sustainability Coordinator says the car has some of the latest hybrid technology.

"It's a fantastic Ford Fusion Energi, so it's a plug-in hybrid." Martensson says "It's basically got batteries in it that you can charge through the charge stations that you see at the front of our municipal centre, but also for longer trips the automatic gas engine will kick in and help you out."

Martensson calls the animated vehicle wrap exciting as well.

"There's a lot of exciting stuff happening on that design. So in the back you have some solar panels they reflect the green attitude we have in town. Also the trees that symbolize our forest are recycling symbols, and if you look really closely you can see a house with kind of a plug in from the sun that symbolizes the Drake Landing Solar Community."

The town is hoping to show their leadership through this vehicle choice, and even the design of the vehicle wrap.

Martensson says "So it speaks to the reports, and the vision and mission that we have here in town and where we want to go, or where the community wants us to go." Martensson adds "Adding graphics to a vehicle that uses the latest hybrid technology is a visual reminder of how Okotoks is fulfilling this vision."

The car provides an economical alternative for staff who need to travel between Town facilities or attend out of town meetings.
