The Town of Okotoks have approved in principle the 'Join The Innovation' branding initiative.

The brand was developed alongside Roger Brooks International with community involved committees last year.

Chairperson of the Branding Committee Jody Sanderson says it was nice to see council get on board with their approval of the brand.

"I'm thrilled with it, I was very happy with the questions that were asked, they were thoughtful," she says. "Literally that's a big ask of council to agree as it's a bit of a time crunch but I was thrilled it was unanimous."

Council has made some recommendations with their decision as funding will need to be considered heading into the 2017 budget.

Sanderson says the next steps in the branding process is to come up with committees that will over see numerous aspects of the branding.

"We're going to ask for volunteers for the committee who's interested. There will be marketing and communications, architectural design and they will have people that they will go to so that they come back to report on their own individual committees that's how I see it going but that's what we have to do first."

Sanderson hopes that the community will get to see what their committees are doing to move the project along.

"One of the things we'd like to do this summer is just see some product, it would be nice to just see some banners or something and then we'll go into September with this group and actually hammer out what exactly we want to bring to council first."
