A string of break ins took place in downtown High River involving Bearberry Lane, Pixie Hollow and Evelyn's Memory Lane between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Owner of Evelyn's Hubert Aumeier says he credits his alarm system for scaring off the would be thief.

"At 11:30pm the suspect broke open the door and the door frame which has an extra strong deadbolt in it. There's major damage to the front door and I will need a new door frame. The suspect came in and knocked over the security camera with his wrecking bar and then the alarm went off."

Aumeier says he was able to give surveillance of the suspect to High River RCMP and also posted the footage on Evelyn's Facebook page.

He says although he has an effective security system he is upgrading the system to enhance protection for his store.

Lisa Siggelkow from Pixie Hollow and Bearberry Lane says they received an unpleasant welcome when they opened Monday morning because both stores which are beside each other were broken in to.

"When we got here Monday morning the front door was unlocked to both of the stores, so they went in one and then the other."

She says the suspect punched a hole in the door to both stores to gain entry.

She says High River police are investigating and she still feels High River is a great community to live in and do business in.

"We're not too concerned, we really like the community and we think it's still a safe. We just think there's some people in need or who knows."

She says the suspect didn't get away with much.

"They didn't get much so we think it was probably not really worth their time so maybe they won't come back."

She says they're upgrading their security system to ensure a higher degree of protection is in place for the businesses.
