Masses of muggles crowded downtown yesterday for the very first Wizarding World of Okotoks.

The Harry Potter themed event was put on by the Okotoks Art Council, who partnered with local businesses in the town to create 41 unique stops for visitors.

Katie Fournell, Event Chair, says every activity was a hit with attendees.

"It was absolutely wild, we had people all over the place. It seemed like there was nothing that was specifically the favourite, so it was great that people were all over downtown. There was people watching the shows, in the shops, people doing the free activities, Hogsmeade was a blast. It was really thrilling to see that everybody seemed to like everything."

Fournell says roughly 6,000 to 10,000 people showed up for the event, including some that traveled a very far distance to take in the festivities.

"One of our goals was to make Okotoks an exciting destination, and we heard one family came as far as Penhold, and I'm sure people came from farther because lots of people were not from Okotoks. At the same it was really great to see how many people did come from Okotoks, that it wasn't just people coming in from Calgary, Okotoks was the most involved group and that was great."

She says after the success of this year, the Okotoks Art Council is looking at a few options for annual events.

"I would love to hear people's opinions on the two options, one is that we do the Wizarding World of Okotoks again. The other option is we do a different theme and hold off on Harry Potter for maybe three or four years and we try something different like superheros, fantasy, or sci-fi, and just change it up every year to keep it super exciting."

The Okotoks Art Council wants to have your feedback if you were at the event, a survey can be found here.
