It's been over a week since the infamous "Things To Do In Okotoks" blow-up on social media and the Town of Okotoks has taken advantage of the situation.

The Town has come up with new and interactive ways to help promote the numerous things to do in Okotoks

Economic Development Manager Shane Olson says it's been quite the experience dealing with all the attention directed at Okotoks.

"We've had tremendous media exposure with this particular story and we've launched a contest with #thingstodoinokotoks, so we want people to share their things to do in Okotoks, we also have some contests around favourite slogan ideas or possibilities that people might come up with," he says.

Olson says the ad that appeared on the internet via a CTrain advertisement is something the Town says is money well spent.

"When it comes to branding there's always things we can do better, certainly that campaign that we did around the CTrains in Calgary was free to the Town of Okotoks," he says. "So the only cost we had, the actual ad placement was free, the only production cost we had was the production cost of the posters."

Out of the many posters on CTrains, the cost to the Town was only $5000.

Olson says the timing of the media attention and Roger Brooks' visit to Okotoks with plans of re-branding the downtown core couldn't be better for the Town.

"As we progress further I think there's a lot of opportunity to capitalize on some of the tourism exposure that we did receive, so I'll be having a number of meetings to discuss feedback."
