Even though a decision has been made to close Imperial Drive in Turner Valley, Royalite residents and Council continue to debate it.

At a special meeting Monday morning Council hashed through an idea from residents about keeping the east half of the road, through the Turner Valley Golf Course, open in the winter and closed in the summer as a compromise.

Mayor Kelly Tuck says while she sympathizes, the answer remains the same.

"Council was very clear to say today, no. If it's going to have the implication of the dollar cost in behind it, they're not going to spend those dollars."

The Town could keep the road open, but at a substantial cost to upgrade it.

There's also the added issue of the golf course, which spent over a million dollars on changes to it's layout to accommodate Imperial Drive closing.

Royalite resident Archie Holmes agrees with the plan, but still has concerns.

"It really doesn't matter to us in a sense, except it would be less traffic coming along the new road through our subdivision and turning East to the Highway."

Holmes says he's also concerned for the road itself as Royalite way is older, and not in great shape.

He says an added issue will be snow removal.

For most residents closing the road means an extra few minutes to get to town taking 16 Avenue.

There's also concern they could see increased traffic on Royalite Way, which they say is not built to handle more traffic than it already sees.

Tuck says Council will tackle that issue when the time comes.

She says they will look to have conversations with both the M.D. of Foothills and the Province in regards to where 16 Avenue meets Highway 22.

Right now at that intersection the speed limit on Highway 22 is 100km/h, which Tuck says is too fast for the increased traffic that will soon be coming off 16 Avenue.

She says she's like to see the Province reduce that speed to 70km/h to reduce the risk of collisions.
