Friday the 13th is one of the most feared and superstitious days in the Western world.

The day is considered to be one of the most unlucky days in history and is usually connected to death.

Museum Specialist Kathy Coutts says, Okotoks has a haunted and superstitious past.

"Many people have experienced a spirit at the train station, Okotoks Junior High is known to have a spirit lurking in its hallways, and several other businesses and homes in Olde Towne Okotoks are also believed to be haunted."

Coutts says the answers for why spirits stay around can be found in past events.

"In the old days there were no hospital so many people died of natural causes and diseases in their homes so spirits may still be lurking in the old homes and businesses."

The museum is also known to have a spirit associated with the house and the items inside.

"We have been told that there is a spirit associated with our old stove here."

Coutts says if there's a spirit next to the stove, she would like her to start baking and making herself useful.
