Students, faculty, and the surrounding community gathered Friday to celebrate the memory and legacy of Terry Fox.

Students wore stickers with the name of who they were running or walking in memory for.

Emma is a grade eight student at the school who ran alongside her friend Jocelyn in memory of her mom who fought with duodenal cancer.

"Cancer went to her liver which is one of the main organs, after that it just collapsed. It is the kinda of cancer that sneaks up on you, and once you start to find the symptoms, it is too late."

Emma adds that along with her mom she has an uncle and a family friend who is fighting the battle right now.

Emma has seen the Terry Fox statue and says that it means a lot to her because of all that it represents, and Friday's run meant just as much.

"The Terry Fox run means a lot to me because everyone I know who is fighting cancer fought hard and Terry Fox fought hard."

Emma's friend Jocelyn was apart of the leadership class that organized the run.

She said that to her Terry Fox was an inspiration because of everything he had gone through especially because his dream was one that would help others.

"Even after losing his leg he still wanted to run across Canada and raise money for cancer awareness because it was important to him that he still was able to help people."
