It may be one the most highly anticipated summer events in Okotoks, as the Taste of Okotoks gives you a peak into all of the great places to eat here in town.

With the weather playing along, 22 different food vendors, live music and a market, the down town festival was thriving.

Community Special Events Coordinator, Mark Doherty, says about two hours into the event, they already had nearly 6000 people.

"The weather couldnt be better, we have about 21 food vendors here today. There's such a great variety of foods, good crowds, and looking at the event zone we've probably got about 6000 people." Doherty says  "I would suspect that through out the day we will exceed our 10,000 mark."

With numbers like that it's safe to say, Taste of Okotoks is a very popular event and even people from out of town attended.

Doherty suspects it's small town charm that makes Okotoks events so successful.

"People love the small town feel here and even as we continue to grow, we're still able to maintain that small town feel and I think that's what it's all about."

As big as Okotoks is getting, the chances you run into a neighbour or a friend at a community event are high.

Another reason Doherty feels the Taste of Okotoks is better recieved than other festivals in the Foothills, or in Calgary.

"We're in a very safe community, you can stroll the streets, we know half of the people and you're supporting our local restaurants." Doherty shares, 'It's a no brainer really, it's even one of my favourite summer events to come out to."

If you missed the Taste of Okotoks, you can still go out and see what kind of things restaurants in Okotoks can cook up, if one thing is forsure, local food will leave a good taste in your mouth.
