Red Deer Lake United Church will be filled with music Friday night in efforts to raise money to bring a refugee family from Syria to Canada.

Phil Jackson with the Red Deer Lake United Church says this initiative will be a team effort.

"Red Deer Lake United Church, Turner Valley United Church and Okotoks United Church are the three churches that are working together to bring a family over from Syria," Jackson says.

The Okotoks United Church will donate its two bedroom apartment in the church to the family.

Jackson says Friday night's concert is called "Notes of Hope" and features some great entertainment.

"The two bands that are playing in the concert are the Sherwood Like to Play Community Band, and the Salvation Army Glenmore Temple Band from Calgary."

Tickets for the event are $15 per person or $40 for a family.

Jackson says all proceeds from the event will go towards supporting the family with every day necessities and helping with their quality of life. A majority of the costs to support this family will come from fundraising and not the government.

"All sponsors, including us, have made a commitment to the federal government to take care of our sponsorship for up to a year," Jackson says.

The concert starts at 7 p.m.
