Students at Okotoks Junior High showed their town spirit on Friday.

Students came to school wearing a hockey jersey and bringing in a box of Kraft Dinner to bring awareness to the Hockeyville competition.

Mackenzie Halifax and Karly Kujat are Grade 8 students at Okotoks Junior High and both play hockey in Okotoks.

Halifax says winning Hockeyville would be helpful when it comes to ice time.

"We have to go to other towns and cities, like Stavely and Black Diamond, so we don't get as much ice time as we would like or close to home," she says. "Winning the money would be really great for our town because twinning our arenas would give us more opportunities."

The grand prize for winning Hockeyville is $100,000 and the money would go towards the twinning of Pason Centennial Arena.

Halifax says she wants people in the community to know that Okotoks is not just a small community, but a community that supports each other.

"There is thousands of people that care about what what our community does, and we are very close with all our activities. We are just a small town, we are bigger than that."

Kujat says that students wearing their jerseys to school show that Okotoks is a hockey community.

"We all support each others' teams, and we all know that we just love hockey," Kujat says.
