Concerns were voiced about moving the storm pond, during last Monday's public hearing on rezoning a part of the Highwood Ranch development.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says there are still things to consider.

"I've got my concerns with us having any infrastructure in any of these floodway areas. That being said, there is a significant cost benefit to the town in the future if we can eliminate lift stations that we don't really need and if we can use gravity to achieve the same result."

He also notes that this rezoning is important for growth in the town.

"We need areas for this town to grow, there's a definite need for it. The big thing for me in this piece of land is being very, very careful with where the development starts and where this storm pond is going to be."

Mayor Snodgrass says nothing's been approved yet, and the town has instructed their engineers to re-visit this development in the context of their current mitigation.

"There's a lot of work to be done on that storm pond yet, you know maybe they've got a way that it'll work out and be a win-win for everybody with it being down in that area. But my biggest concern is that area has been flooded before and we basically have designed our mitigation that it will flood again."

Mayor Snodgrass mentions that many of the pinch points in the river have been removed, and the water now has a place to move and get away.  He says things are much different than they were in June 2013, but the town still wants to be especially careful and remember the lessons they've learned in the past.
